Nella Repubblica Platone sembra escludere la poesia dalla cittŕ che ha fondato. Ma, nella discussione filosofica del suo Socrate, alla poesia non rinuncia. Questo lavoro di Fabio Massimo Giuliano muove da qui, per considerare, nei dialoghi di Platone, la fruizione della poesia e ad un tempo l'indagine sulla natura della poesia. Ne deriva un quadro complessivo del rapporto con la poesia fondato sulla densa trama di citazioni che Platone offre, anche per caratterizzare i singoli personaggi. Scopo ultimo di questo lavoro č interpretare il senso del bando che pende sulla poesia nella cittŕ ideale non piů come il frutto di un'astratta e solitaria meditazione speculativa, ma come un tentativo, pienamente inserito nella realtŕ culturale del tempo, di precisare meglio i limiti e le potenzialitŕ nuove della poesia: dalle potenzialitŕ nuove della poesia nasce la costruzione stessa dei dialoghi che della poesia ereditano la funzione storica. *** In the Republic Plato seems to exclude poetry from the city he has founded. However, in the philosophical discussion of his Socrates, he does not forget poetry. The book of Fabio Massimo Giuliano begins from this point: he examines, in the dialogues of Plato, the fruition of poetry and the investigation into the nature of poetry. We obtain a general picture of the relationship with poetry based on a network of quotations offered by Plato also in order to characterize the single personages. Final aim of this book is to interpret the meaning of the banishment which hangs over poetry in the ideal city. This banishment appear no longer as the product of an abstract and solitary speculation, but as an attempt, fully inserted in the cultural reality of the time, to define the limits and the new potentiality of poetry: the result of this potentiality is the composition of the dialogues, which in fact inherit the historical function of poetry.
