The theme of the playing cards is classical music. Baroque for decorative Clubs (c. 1600ż1750), Vienna Classicism (c. 1750ż1820) for clear-cut Diamonds, Romanticism for Hearts (c. 1810ż1920), and National Schools for dramatic Spades (c. 1830ż1950)! Ruling the card table as Kings are Bach, Beethoven, Wagner and Sibelius, with Vivaldi, Mozart, Clara Schumann and Tchaikovsky as Queens by their side. Handel, Haydn, Chopin and Grieg are the Jacks. Cards 2 to 10 depict the musical style period through musical notation. The aces depict the musical instruments typical for the style period.Who, then, are the jokers in classical music?
