Based on factual personalities and events, intermingled with fantasy, Sisters of Silence is set in the northern Patagonian Lake District, from the 1930s to present times. Rita has a daughter, Juana, who is the result of a rape. Juana is raised by the Mapuche Indians and later becomes the shaman of the tribe. Rita dies giving birth to her second daughter, Jane, who is brought up by her uncle and aunt. Although the two sisters live in the same area, they are unaware of their connection, as the birth of Juana, the eldest, was kept shrouded in secrecy. Their rivalry for Rita's homestead, Ayelen, situated high up above Lake Lacar, which used to belong to the Curruhuinca chieftain, makes them sworn enemies. The women's different cultural upbringings contribute to the tension. Sisters of Silence follows Juana and Jane's lives, love affairs, and sorrows. Will the sisters reconcile with one another? What will they discover about their circumstances? What role will the afterlife play in their story? Sisters of Silence is a poignant story about the loneliness of being divided between two cultures, belonging to neither, and the desperate wish to assimilate. Janet Anne Dickinson grew-up in San Martín de los Andes, a small town in the northern Patagonian Lake District, where she still resides. http://SBPRA.com/JanetAnneDickinson
