This book aims to explore the intricate interrelationship between oral health and prolonged aerobic exercise, with the focus on highly popular individual sports such as running or cycling, as practiced by athletes of all abilities. After description of sports-related oral risk factors, the dental conditions most frequently observed in athletes and their impact on performance are examined. Principles of dental management are then explained, and therapeutic solutions provided for the most common dental lesions. In order to clarify the vulnerability especially of endurance athletes, relevant elements of sports physiology and training are outlined and the behavioral, psychological, and physiological factors predisposing athletes to oral health problems are discussed. In examining the dental clinical reality in these athletes, a wide spectrum of oral consequences, affecting both soft and hard tissues, are investigated. Emphasis is placed upon prophylactic measures and solutions adapted to the athlete's individual needs, as well as the importance of effective collaboration with a diverse team of professionals.
