Sunlight Fragments is a collection of poems that recognizes that light seldom bursts fully and magnificently into human experience. Rather it enters our sometime darkness and despair in a fragmentary way - as fragments of light - especially in the form of healing love. This volume, while written against a backdrop of darkness we sometimes associate with trauma, aging, and death, is for the most part about light. It is about hope, even lightness of being. It is above all about love. But it could not have been written without the cooperation of darkness. The poet, without saying so explicitly, does not see the varieties of light as separate, but ultimately as one in the process of transformation. Therefore, the light of the human energetic body, a bare light bulb beneath which old men gossip at night in Beijing, the yellow moon in Torremolinos, and the "bug-spotted" streetlight of the poet's childhood game of "kick the can" all share a connection with one another. Yes, even "swamp light" participates in connectedness and hope: "Light is what I believe in. / What else is there... when I feel / An ache in my side where I once / Gave up God for the sake of light?"
Since 2008, we have served long line of book lovers, but each of them was always on the first place.
