The Rubber Industry has a long history going back several hundred years and during its development the terminology used has not always been the most logical or descriptive. For example, Hancock described his masticator and mixing device as a 'Pickle' to avoid conveying any knowledge of what it did or how it worked. As it carries the baggage of this considerable period of time, some new to the industry find it difficult to understand. With terms such as spew, mould dope, pig, drug room and cracking all having their own rubber-related meaning, it is little wonder that the industry is regarded by outsiders as a Black Art. Each entry consists of the term or abbreviation followed by an expanded definition.
