Description Quality indicators and the quality payments based on them are here to stay. The delivery of quality diabetes care, as outlined in the quality framework of the new GP contract, is the main focus of attention of this book. Unlike the majority of diabetes textbooks available today, this book is specifically targeted at the GP, practice nurse and community diabetes team. Following on from the Diabetes National Service Framework (NSF), the quality framework of the new GP contract, which was accepted by the profession in the summer of 2003, sets out the delivery of quality diabetes care. The quality payment framework included in the new GP contract gives both detailed process and quality targets, which will inevitably become the main drivers for diabetes care delivery in general practice. The chapters of this book cover in detail each of the 18 quality indicators. The background and evidence base from trials and guidelines is given, along with underlying issues and pragmatic guidance as to how to deliver care to fulfil the targets.
