The conversion reactors of this type considered until today may be developed into breeders by the improvement of the reprocessing proce dure and the appIication of beryllium oxide as moderator material. The determination of the fast fis sion factor of beryllium oxide and the research of a pyrolytic procedure for the eIimination of the most important fis sion pro ducts are the top problems which should be solved within the frame of this development. In spite of the Iow breeding factor which is expected for the thorium uranium fuel cycle, a satisfying breeding proce~cc:ould be reached due to the high specific power of this reactor type.
