Excerpt from Palćontology of New-York, Vol. 1 Sir, I Herewith submit that part of my Report on the Palćontology of New-York, containing descriptions of the organic remains found in the lower division of the system, which comprises the Potsdam sandstone, Calciferous sandstone, Chazy limestone, Birdseye limestone, Black-river limestone, Trenton limestone, Utica slate and Hudson-river group. All the species described will be illustrated by figures drawn and engraved from original specimens, the greater part of which have been collected by myself from these strata, and the others received from individuals whose authority for their geological position will be cited.
