Modern technology is based largely on materials such as semiconductors, ferrites, magnetic garnets, piezo-electric, ultraviolet and infra-red sensitive crystals and crystalline films for microelectronics and computer industries. Therefore crystals and the search for their proper understanding in respect of growth mechanism, structure, properties and application have fascinated mankind since ages. Tartrate crystals, in general have become increasingly important in the electro-optical field, as these crystals show many interesting properties such as dielectric, ferroelectricity, piezo-electricity etc. They are extensively used for controlling laser light. Some tartrate crystals are also used in the fabrication of crystal oscillators and resonators.
