Originally published in 1890. Introduction: In the succeeding pages the attempt is made to describe the reagents used in the various processes of analysis. The name reagent may be applies to all bodies, simple or compound, which, when bought together with others, produce, by there mutual action upon each other, a change of condition in color, odour, state of aggregation, temperature, etc , It is, however, usually restricted to those chemicals which we employ for the purpose of eliciting information as to the constitutes of bodies, whose composition we desire to ascertain. The change produced by the action of the bodies bought together is called a reaction, and is due to a rearrangement of there atoms into new molecules...... Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
