This Guide encapsulates more than a quarter of a century of experience. It is the most authoritative publication on Italian wine in the world, translated into English, German and Chinese. An extraordinary team of more than 60 tasters scoured the length and breadth of Italy to describe for you the best of Italian wine. Some 45000 wines were tasted blind and the best 20000, from 2350 cellars, were then reviewed. But numbers alone are cold. We like to flesh out the picture by describing the winemakers, the territories, the wines and the styles. The Three Glass news is that this year there are 399 top awards, confirming the excellent state of health of Italian wine. As many as 59 Three Glass wines can be purchased in the stores for less than 15 Euro while 93 are produced by wineries that farm their vineyards with a close eye on sustainability. Today more than ever, environmental awareness is at the heart of any long-term wine project. Here is the Guide's Three Glass round-up of Italian wine. Yet again, Piedmont is top region with 75, followed by Tuscany on 68. Then comes Veneto with 36, Friuli on 27, Alto Adige with 26, Lombardy on 20 and Sicily on 19. Campania is neck and neck with Marche on 17, followed by Puglia on 14 and Sardinia on 13. Behind them come three pairs: Emilia Romagna and Abruzzo on 12, Trentino and Umbria on ten and Valle d'Aosta and Liguria with six. Bringing up the rear are Lazio on four, Basilicata and Calabria on three and Molise with just one top award winner.
